A hammer and a smile...
Today Jim left Nu Skin, he was a maintenance person who helped me put up all the pictures on my walls and make my office "pertty" as he put it. He is retiring a very happy man and will spend his days becoming a "housewife" as he put it jokingly once. He had been with our company for over a decade and whenever anyone needed a lightbulb fixed or a desk screw tightened or couldn't find their kyes.. Jim was the man !!! I will miss him.Whenever I wanted to put up pictures, my clock, a wall hanging or anything on the wall, all I had to do was call him and he would be there, with his set of screws, a level, a hammer and the man was set to conquer the world .. always with a smile on his face.. he indulged me just like his daughter, ready to move the picture just a wee bit so I would find it perfect...
Today as I said goodbye, there was nothing for me to give him but some Canadian maple nuts, it was such a small token of Thank you for all the times he took to indulge on my interior decorating whims !!! :) But before he left, he stopped by my office and said ' you take care now" and then took out his digital camera and said.. " you think I will forget you.. not a chance now" and he took a picture...
There are some gestures that become defining moments in one's life and this was one of them, the power of kindness and warmth... that Jim always stood for as he hammered down many a nail.. but never without a smile...
